Our Frequently Asked Questions provide clear answers to common inquiries, offering guidance and support for those interested in the program.

The REACH 2.0 program is an immersive training and mentorship initiative focused on evidence-based addiction health care practices. It is funded by the SAMHSA Minority Fellowship Program and supports Scholars and Near Peers pursuing careers in academic addiction medicine and addiction psychiatry.

REACH 2.0 is not an independent fellowship program. It is a project funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and sponsored by the American College of Academic Addiction Medicine (ACAAM). It provides funding to support the cultivation and fostering of individuals as leaders and clinicians in addiction medicine and addiction psychiatry.

  • Scholars: Medical students, residents, and fellow in or pursuing Addiction Medicine or Addiction Psychiatry
  • Near Peers: Individuals 1–5 years out of training who have experience in addiction care and have previously participated in REACH or a similar mentorship program.

In 2025-2026, the REACH 2.0 program accepted 20 Scholars and 20 Near Peers. In total, the REACH 2.0 program has funded 40 Scholars and Near Peers.

  • Near Peers must attend a two-day training in April, monthly webinars, and virtually meet with their assigned Scholar at least four times per year.
  • Scholars must attend a three-day training in July, monthly webinars, and meet virtually with both a traditional and a Near Peer Mentor four times per year.

Participants receive structured mentorship, access to expert faculty, networking opportunities, and training in addiction care and leadership.

Participants are matched based on shared areas of interest, professional goals, and experience to foster meaningful relationships and guidance.

Locations for the in-person Scholar or Near Peer training will be announced when the application cycle opens. Additional meetings and webinars are held virtually throughout the year.

Details about financial support (e.g., travel stipends or reimbursements) will be provided upon acceptance.

Scholar programming begins in July and runs through the following June. Near Peer programming begins in April and runs through June of the next year.
